Bonnie J. Cardone

“Hybrid author” usually means a person who has been both traditionally published and self-published. That applies to me in another way as well; I write both mystery fiction and marine-related nonfiction.

My dad was a high school football coach and P.E. teacher who loved sports. Each of my siblings excelled at one. That scuba diving turned out to be mine surprised everyone, including me, and led to a job as editor of a scuba magazine. I loved it. I wrote hundreds of articles, shot thousands of photographs and dived places around the world.

Nothing lasts forever. After 22 years, I was downsized. Now I developed a photojournalism career writing articles for scuba magazine
s. I also resumed writing mysteries. I had tried my hand at that while I was a stay at home mom.

Already a member of Mystery Writers of America, I joined Sisters in Crime and ended up editing their national newsletter for nine years.

My goal since I was a little girl, however, was to write mystery novels and I had four in various stages of completion. I relinquished the job as newsletter editor (which I loved) to concentrate on getting the novels published. Today, three are available as Kindle ebooks and paperbacks and I am working on the fifth. The fourth, actually the second written, is buried deep in my files. No one but me needs to find out how awful it is!

The novels didn’t happen overnight. the first one was in the works for 15 years before it was published. Three short stories featuring my books’ protagonist, Cinnamon Greene, have also been published, two in anthologies and one in an online magazine.

Continuing my hybrid life, I currently write a monthly marine life article for California Diving News.

I’d love to know what you think of my books. And if the mood strikes you, please write a review.
